Mike McCarthy
Mike is a criminal defense attorney based in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., representing individuals and companies in federal and state investigations, prosecutions, and military justice proceedings.
A former federal prosecutor, big law attorney, and Navy JAG, Mike brings a deep understanding of how government cases are built—and how to dismantle them. He represents clients facing investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice, federal and state enforcement agencies, and the U.S. military under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
Prior to entering private practice, Mike served nearly a decade with the U.S. Department of Justice, first as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Columbia, where he prosecuted violent crime, narcotics, and firearms offenses, and later as a Trial Attorney in the Fraud Section, where he handled complex white-collar criminal matters including health care fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, and international corruption.
He has first-chaired 17 jury trials, dozens of bench trials, and hundreds of evidentiary hearings in federal courts nationwide. He also led a major corporate prosecution involving a U.S. Department of Defense contractor.
In addition to his civilian practice, Mike serves as a Judge Advocate General in the U.S. Navy Reserve, advising on criminal and administrative matters under the UCMJ.
As a defense attorney, Mike leverages his experience from inside the Department of Justice and the U.S. military to deliver strategic, practical, and effective advocacy—protecting his clients’ rights, reputations, and futures.
